PM: Gentle cleanser, hydrating serum, moisturizer
Q: WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER THE FIRST 24 HOURS AFTER THE PEEL?
Your skin will feel tighter and be more red than usual. Your skin may feel tacky and have a tint (orange or darkened skin) that subsides in a few hours. This is due to the acid applied to the skin.
Q: WHEN WILL MY SKIN START TO PEEL & HOW LONG?
Peeling will generally start 48-72 hours after your treatment and can last 2-10 days. In some instances, you may only have dry patches and flaking. It is very important not to pick off peeling skin, or aggressively rub; peeling can be minimized and easily controlled with moisturizer. Premature peeling of the skin will result in dry, cracked, raw skin that may develop into hyperpigmentation! Keep the skin hydrated during this time!
Q: MAY I EXERCISE AFTER THE PEEL?
Exercise that produces a lot of heavy sweating should be avoided the day of the peel.
Avoid excessive heat 1-2 days post treatment, i.e. heavy workouts, steam rooms or saunas, etc. As sweat can become trapped between layers of the skin, and the body treats it as an inflammatory response. Resulting in hyperpigmentation.
Q:HOW DO I CARE FOR MY SKIN AFTER THE PEEL?
Use of a gentle cleanser shall be used to wash your face, scrubs and wash cloths should be avoided while skin is peeling. Application of a hydrating moisturizer twice a day or as often as necessary is recommended to relieve dryness and control peeling. Barrier repair, Allatoin, barrier cream Moist are all highly suggested. A Sunblock must be worn daily. Its best to avoid prolonged sun exposure for 1-week post peel.
Q: IS IT NORMAL FOR MY SKIN TO GET DARKER OR SPOTS TO APPEAR AFTER TREATMENT?
Yes and no. Yes, itβs normal for the outer layer of your skin to die off and become dark before it sloughs off. This is more apparent in darker skin tones. It is also normal to have a few spots become darker at times. This is due to the fact that pigmentation can lie in various layers of the skin. As we resurface the top layers, the pigmented skin deeper down can come to the surface to finally be removed. However, it is not normal for new freckle like pigments to appear or a certain region darkening. OR this could potentially be new hyperpigmentation that needs to be addressed with the reduced sun exposure, proper sunblock and/or medical professional intervention.
MAKEUP?
Avoid makeup, at least for the first day. You can use it after that, but why not take this as an opportunity to flaunt your new, glowing skin. BB Cream/Tinted Moisturizer will suffice! And use this break to deep clean your brushes!
Skip Exfoliating & Actives (unless directed)
Avoid exfoliating for a 3-4 days. This is especially true if you had an aggressive treatment.Unless directed to resume by your provider, skip drying, antiaging, irritating agents, such as benzoyl peroxide or Retin-A, while healing. You may resume any topical retinoids (Retin-A, Tazorac, etc.) or topical acne medications in 3-5 days after treatment, if skin is well healed. And waxing for 1-2 weeks.
POOL?
Avoid chlorine for the first 3-7 days.
SUN EXPOSURE
Stay out of the sun, if you can. The new skin cells exposed by your facial are sensitive. Give them a few days out of the sun and, if you have to go out, use a high SPF (30+) sunscreen and reapply!
STAY MOISTURIZED
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. You want to moisturize just enough to where you are not cracking and not too much where you are clogging your skin and potentially causing more breakouts. Along with drinking water! IF you are still really dry following the peel continue to keep everything simple until moisture levels balance back out then RESUME actives.
